About AgeInPlaceGuide

Why We Built This

Helping a parent stay safe at home is one of the hardest things a family does. The products are confusing. The marketing is aggressive. And most review sites are just ads pretending to be advice.

We built AgeInPlaceGuide to cut through the noise. We read the certifications, check every price at the source, and say plainly what each device does and does not do. We write for the adult child who is Googling "best medical alert for mom" at midnight because they are worried.

How We Review Products

  • We read caregiver forums. Reddit, AgingCare, and Facebook caregiver groups tell us what real families experience, not what marketing teams want us to believe.
  • We compare real costs. Monthly fees, equipment fees, cancellation fees, and contract terms. We show the full picture, not just the starting price.
  • We check prices at the source. Every price comes from the company's own site, and we date it. When a company will not publish a price, we tell you that instead of repeating a number from somewhere else.
  • We say who gets the alert. Some devices call a monitoring centre that can send an ambulance. Some only text you. That difference matters more than any feature list, so we put it in every review.
  • We include cons for every product. Every device has trade-offs. If a review does not mention downsides, it is an ad.

What we do not do: we do not run a testing lab. We have not timed emergency calls or staged falls, and you should be careful with any site that says it has without showing you the data. What we do is read the manuals, the plan terms and the caregiver forums, then write down what we find and where it came from.

What We Stand Behind

Each of these is a commitment you can hold us to, and each one names the place you can check it. None of them is a claim about testing we have not done.

  • No Sponsored Rankings

No advertiser has ever paid for placement here.

  • Real Cost Transparency

Prices come from the vendor's own page and are dated. Where a vendor publishes none, we say so.

  • Independent Research

Recommendations follow published specs and terms, not press releases.

  • Reader Supported

Affiliate commissions fund the site and never change a ranking.

  • Safety Focused

Who receives the alert, and what a device cannot do, appear in every review.

  • Fall Risk Aware

Fall detection limits are stated plainly rather than sold around.

  • Weight Capacity Listed

Load ratings are published for every grab bar, rail and ramp.

  • Installation Aware

Mounting requirements, and when to call a professional, are part of the recommendation.

  • Accessibility Minded

The site targets WCAG 2.2 AA and publishes an accessibility statement.

  • Written for Caregivers

Written for the adult child researching at midnight.

Affiliate Disclosure

AgeInPlaceGuide.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and the Rakuten Advertising network. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click one of those links and buy something, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

This is how we keep the site running and free to use. It does not change our recommendations. We never recommend a product because it pays a higher commission. We recommend products because they work.

Specifically, we earn commissions from:

  • • Amazon Associates, 1 to 4 percent on product purchases
  • • Coleman Furniture via Rakuten Advertising, on lift chairs

That is the whole list. Most of the brands we write about pay us nothing, and several of the biggest ones cannot pay us at all: Medical Guardian and Bay Alarm Medical links on this site are ordinary links with no commission attached, and the contractor directories we point to are not referral links either. We would rather tell you that than imply a relationship we do not have.

If we have not tested a product, we say so. If a product is not worth buying, we say that too. Our readers trust us because we are honest, and we plan to keep it that way.
