Editorial Policy

Last reviewed: May 2026

AgeInPlaceGuide covers safety equipment, medical alerts, home modifications, and senior care technology. This is YMYL content. Inaccurate or misleading information can cause real harm. Our editorial process reflects that responsibility.

1. Research

Every guide starts with primary sources. We cite clinical studies, FDA device clearances, NCOA (National Council on Aging) data, AARP research, American Heart Association guidelines, and manufacturer documentation.

We do not rely on secondary summaries or press releases as sole sources. If a claim matters, we find the original document.

For product pages, we review manufacturer specs, independent user reviews, ConsumerAffairs ratings, and publicly available regulatory filings. We note when a device is FDA-cleared vs. not FDA-cleared because that distinction matters for fall detection accuracy claims.

2. Writing standards

Content is written by the AgeInPlaceGuide Editorial Team. We write in plain language at a 4th-5th grade reading level. Our audience includes seniors themselves, adult children, and caregivers. They should not need a medical dictionary to understand what we are saying.

Every commercial page includes a disclaimer that the content is informational only and not a substitute for medical advice. We say it clearly at the top of every guide, not buried in fine print.

3. Medical and expert review

We are actively recruiting a credentialed gerontologist or occupational therapist to serve as our medical reviewer. Until that recruitment is complete, all clinical content is reviewed internally against primary source citations. We cross-reference NCOA, AARP, AHA, and peer-reviewed studies for any specific health claims.

Pages that have been reviewed by an external expert will note the reviewer's name, credentials, and review date in the page header. Pages without external review will say "Internally reviewed."

4. Verification

Claims are fact-checked against source materials before publication. Prices are verified at time of writing. Product availability and plan details change frequently in the medical alert industry, so we note the verification date on all product pages.

If you find an error, email us at editorial@anvilroad.com. We respond within 48 hours and correct verified errors within 5 business days.

5. Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click and buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We use Amazon affiliate links tagged with ageinplace-20. Some brand links are direct affiliate relationships.

Affiliate relationships do not change our editorial opinions. We do not give higher ratings or better placement to products because of commissions. If a product is not the best fit for our readers, we say so, regardless of whether we have an affiliate relationship with that brand.

Every commercial page (comparison guides, product reviews, best-of lists) notes the affiliate relationship at the top of the page.

6. Update schedule

We review all pages quarterly. Medical alert pricing changes often. Product models are updated annually. We update pages when we find pricing errors, discontinued products, or new clinical data that changes our recommendations.

The "Last reviewed" date on each page reflects the most recent editorial review. The dateModified in the page schema reflects the most recent content update.
